2006 - New site, new management!Friday 6 January, 2006
Hey dudes.. WUSSUP!?!?!

My name is Gerard and i've just taken over this funky little site called Fist2Face! Just wanna send a big thanks to Elliot for setting up this site. Its come a LONG way since the start and he's certainly made my job pretty bloody easy!

So.. let me fill you all in on some of the changes you're gonna see around the site

First up, you'll notice a bit of a tidy up with the design.. nothin too drastic there (if it aint broke.. dont fix it uno!?)

Soon we're gonna have a B-Pay option

Also, slowly but surely you'll notice the site branch out into all different music genres. I hope the site stays dedicated to the punk rock scene while also getting its feet wet with metal, hip hop, alternative, country and heaps of other shit..

Online tickets for gigs will also be available in the coming months!

We look forward to a great year!
Please bear with us as we feel our way through the first few weeks.. go easy on us!
Love from Fist2Face

CD OF MONTH - JUNEFriday 15 June, 2007
Job For A Cowboy – Genesis
Job For A Cowboy are a relatively young death metal band with loads of talent and potential. This is quite obviously shown on their album 'Genesis'. They deliver some, ear piercing vocals, crushing riffs, some noticeable bass work and frantic drums, all which shape up the excellence that is Genisis.

R.I.P Wayne ThunderFriday 15 June, 2007
Last week saw the passing of The Suns legendary drummer Wayne Thunder. Wayne passed away peacefully in his sleep aged 29.
Our thoughts are with his close friends and family.
We’ve now sold out of both The Suns EP’s and in good time, we will approach the band for more stock. In the mean time, we have a select few shirts and caps.

CD OF THE MONTH - JULYSaturday 14 July, 2007
Paramore – RIOT!
The second album, ‘RIOT!’ from pop-rock outfit Paramore is definitely a winner. Paramore were booked to come to Australia earlier this year with New Found Glory but bailed on the tour in order to get this album recorded, but they have certainly made up for it with this release! Keep an ear out for the bands first single off the album ‘Misery Business’ which has already had a lot of airplay.
This album is definitely one of those ‘no need for a skip button’ CD’s.

CD OF THE MONTH - AUGUSTThursday 9 August, 2007
Vanna – Curses
If melodic ‘post-hardcore/nu-hardcore/metal-core’ is what you’re after, then this is the CD for you. Some compare Vanna to the likes of Norma Jean, Every Time I Die and He Is Legend, perhaps because such bands are Vanna’s biggest influences, which show through in their music.
With songs on the CD such as ‘The Vanishing Orchestra’ being more technical and intense, Vanna ease up a bit with softer melodies shining through in Surgical Tools and Trophy Wives.

www.myspace.com/respondermusic
With the release of Responders’ second EP ‘Complete Radio Silence’, the band have definitely upped the bar in comparison to their debut EP ‘Seeing And Thinking At Twice’.
‘Complete Radio Silence’ consists of 6 solid tracks that just get better with every listen.
If you’re a fan of Trial Kennedy, Kisschasy, Blueline Medic and other such bands, then this EP should definitely be added to your MUST LISTEN TO list and for only $10 why not purchase a copy from Fist2Face!

CD OF THE MONTH! - OCTOBERFriday 12 October, 2007
Parkway Drive – Horizons
What has been described as the most highly anticipated Australian Metal / Core album of 2007, ‘Horizons’ has finally been released! And let me tell you, this was definitely not a case of an anti-climax. From start to finish you’re slapped in the face with exploding breakdown after exploding breakdown, all cleverly placed with grinding guitar, making each song even more addictive than the next.

“Horizons firmly cements Parkway Drive in the upper echelons of worldwide metalcore royalty.”
Patrick Perrier

CD OF THE MONTH! - NOVEMBERFriday 9 November, 2007
Bugdust - Welcome to the city of snakes
We were going to write our own review for this LONG awaited album.. but we felt that the review in BLUNT magazine said it all.
"Guitars that grind their way through your gut like tapeworm, drums that walk all over you like one of those Japanese massage chicks, bass that throbs like the headache you get from 27 vodka jelly shots and vocals that that mix grunt with gravel, Melbourne rock demons Bugdust have followed up a couple of EPs with an album that proves you can mix sheer swinging-balls fury with song writing nous. Recorded in El Paso, Texas, with champion producer bloke Neil Kernon (Judas Priest, Sex Pistols), City Of Snakes doesn't hold back the punches, sounding both classic and innovative while fusing a stoner vibe into a pub rock sound that could fill stadiums."

CD OF THE MONTH! - DECEMBERMonday 10 December, 2007
Chase This Light – Jimmy Eat World
After every album Jimmy Eat World put out, I always say to myself “Wow, this album is amazing. I don’t think they could ever top this..” But somehow.. they always do! And ‘Chase This Light’ is no exception. From start to finish, this album keeps you bopping about in true Jimmy Eat World form. ‘Always Be’ with its catchy, hypnotizing, melodic chorus, being in my opinion, one of the best tracks on the album along with ‘Here It Goes’ which is an extremely catchy dig at the music scene.
Do yourself a favour and go buy this album.

CD OF THE MONTH! - JANUARYFriday 18 January, 2008
Saves The Day – Under The Boards
If you’re a regular at Fist2Face you may have heard this album being played quite a lot lately! It’s an album that gets you hyped up and singing along. For those old school saves the day fans, don’t fret! This album definitely lives up to their previous releases to date. While the 2nd track ‘Radio’ is, in my opinion the best song on the album, with it’s extremely catchy chorus and fun verses, which ironically is a perfect song for the radio, tracks 3 (Can’t Stay The Same) and 7 (Bye Bye Baby) don’t come far behind in extremely catchy and fun chorus’s.
The excellent thing about this album is Saves The Day give you your fun and catchy sing-a-long songs and mix in some typical serious Saves The Day songs such as tracks 10 (Because You Are No Other) and track 12 (Woe).
Yet again, another successful Saves The Day album that you should all rush out and get.. right now.. from Fist2Face.

CD OF THE MONTH! - FEBRUARYFriday 15 February, 2008
The Getaway Plan – Other Voices, Other Rooms
I must say, this album definitely surprised me. I expected it to be filled with pounding and grinding guitars and wailing screams all combined into fairly melodic and catchy songs. But this is far from it. Whilst there is still no shortage of screaming and grinding guitars, but they just don’t over do it. Everything is perfect and in balance, leaving them with QUITE a fantastic album to show.
It’s enjoyable to listen to, melodic but not poppy.
The stand out songs without a doubt would have to be the song that inspired the album title ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ and ‘A Lover’s Complaint’.
So if you loved The Getaway Plan before, I suggest you buy this album and give it whirl. Or even if you have never heard of The Getaway Plan (what rock have you been sleeping under?), ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ would be an excellent album to begin your TGP experience.

Coue Method - To Mock A Vapid World

CD OF THE MONTH - MAYSunday 18 May, 2008

Coue Method - To Mock A Vapid World

Throughout the 90s, Melbourne's One Inch Punch (later known as Mid Youth Crisis) were the leaders of melodic punk in Australia. After a 10 year absence, three founding members have re-banded as Coue Method. Steve Milligan's distinct vocals are powerful and melodic, and Lombardi and McAnally's guitars sweep between the dissonant and uplifting.

"Recently returning to Melbourne after living in Ireland for several years, ex-Mid Youth Crisis frontman Steven Milligan has again been drawn towards writing lyrics driven by melody, underscored by pounding guitars and characterized by vigorous intent. Enlisting old friends in Adrian Lombardi (ex-MYC himself, and currently of Blueline Medic) and Heath McNally (ex-MYC), saw the beginnings of Coue Method take shape." - chaos.com

CD OF THE MONTH - JUNEFriday 6 June, 2008

Trial Kennedy - New Manic Art

Melbourne's Trial Kennedy are such a good band it's ridiculous. Great musicians, sexy dudes, and more importantly, writers of some seriously good tunes. They've been around for many years, but recently released their debut full-length album New Manic Art, and with songs like "The Great Escape", "Neighbours" and the new single "Colour Day Tours", it is sure to brighten up your CD collection.

If you don't yet know who Trial Kennedy are but you're a fan of good Aussie rock music like Kisschasy, Gyroscope or Horsell Common, get this album now!

BAG YOURSELF A BARGAIN!Friday 11 July, 2008

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm one of those guys who travels with a man-bag everywhere he goes. And I swear, it's the most convenient thing in the world, cause you never know when you're gonna spill ice cream all over yourself and need some tissues. (Seriously, that's happened to me twice in the past few weeks. How fucked is that?! Is there something wrong with me?)

And as we all know, the only thing better than carrying a bag, is carrying a bag with your favourite band on it! We've stocked up on bags at the store this month, and I cordially invite YOU to pick one up and see how much better your life functions when you have Nurofen and bus timetables within arms reach at all times.

Here's a short list of some of the bags we have available, be they of the messenger, tote or backpack variety: The Living End, H.I.M., AFI, Taking Back Sunday, G-Pop, Weezer, a really cute one with apples on it, False Start, My Chemical Romance, Dickies, I Love Melbourne Graffiti, Death Cab For Cutie, and Something With Numbers.

Plus, we've got a massive range of bags that we can order in from overseas! Check out the Bags section of the Fist2Face website to see some of the stuff we can get.

THE DOCTOR IS IN!Friday 11 July, 2008

Man, how good are puns? Seriously.

Remember Dr Pepper, the delicous soft drink that tasted vaguely like Demazin? I don't know why, but they stopped selling it in Australia over five years ago, and for ages the only place you could get it was from some place in the city, so you had to buy a zone 1 ticket just to get your Pepper fix. What a rip!

Well not any more, because Fist2Face has imported all the Dr Pepper and Cherry Coke you could ever want! And better yet, it's only $2.50 a can! You can't beat that price! So come on down to ol' Fistie Facey and pine over old times with an icy cold can of Dr Pepper and Cherry Coke. It'll cure what ails ya!

CD OF THE MONTH - AUGUSTSunday 24 August, 2008

Carpathian - Isolation

I don't need to tell you who Carpathian are - especially if you were at Soundwave earlier in the year. Carpathian, as one of only three Aussie bands on the bill, managed to draw massive crowds over from the international bands, even creating a wall of death in Sydney that rivalled the one for headliners Killswitch Engage.

Well it's been almost three years since their brutal debut album Nothing To Lose first cracked eardrums all around the world, and Carpathian are finally ready to unleash the beast that is Isolation. Aussie hardcore is world-renowned, and for good reason. Isolation not only continues that reputation, it surpasses it.

Anberlin - New Surrender

Anberlin have been quietly building a following for a number of years, and make their major label debut with New Surrender. But that doesn't mean they've sold out: one review said "New Surrender rocks with the force of Blueprints and smarts of Never Take Friendship Personal".

If you've not heard Anberlin before but like Mae, Emery, Copeland or bands of that style, Anberlin just might be the ticket for you! With an appearance on the massive Soundwave festival coming up next year, they look sure to explode in popularity down here in Oz.

A collection of acoustic material pulling songs from his two previous EPs "Simone..." and "Me And Martin" as well as some new material, it's the perfect companion to a lazy summer day.

DAMN THE EMPIRE - With Tends Like These...

The only way to tackle a Monday is head on, no holes barred, so the logical choice when it came to picking out today's 'What's In The Box?' CD from the pile was to go for something hard 'n fast. That's exactly what Melbourne's Damn The Empire offer on their debut album which was released on Friday via Pee Records. Members of bands like Yidcore, Bad Day Down, The Omen and Dead Like Geneva combine and deliver 16 tracks of punk rock fury.
Sick of breakdown battle-offs, painful squeals / growls or whatever the term is this week for that cool band who you can't understand a lyric being delivered? Pissed off by that one time punk band suddenly swapping drums for a sampler and going all pop on your arse? Or being sent broke by your favourite band putting out more merch designs than songs? Need something no-frills, foot to the floor and not about to go all 360 on you? Then look no further. 16 songs, 20 minutes, no fucking about. The good old fashion punk rock spirit is alive and breathing in Damn The Empire. Lyrics that get straight to the point and a sound that isn't being done enough nowadays, which is probably not all that bad a thing because it makes this one much more enjoyable to listen to. To put it simply, if you dig a good energetic in your face brand of fist punching punk rock, this album is one for you.

CD OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER!Tuesday 24 November, 2009

THE CRITICS Noise And Popularity
Having released several batches of songs that established their sound and ethos quite specifically, for their big tamale The Critics decided to branch out and shake their own formula up some.

With guitarist Chay Robinson having been long enough in the band to start making his songwriting presence felt, The Critics’ most recently-written songs take the band to new and more adventurous places right from the get-go, with opening track No One Lost showing that Gyroscope’s influence on The Critics is starting to match The Critics’ influence on Gyroscope. Considering both bands have shared a member this is not at all surprising, but a more dynamic feel – coupled with the vocals of Andy Snell – is an incredibly potent thing for this band to have.

Robinson’s presence is also felt on World Stops Turning – a song that has the feel of two other bands similar in genus to The Critics: Midnight Oil and The Living End – and Noise And Popularity works so well because this new direction flavours the album, rather than dominating it.

The classic Critics sound abounds elsewhere on the record, keeping a sense of familiarity and grounding intact, with tunes such as Too Young and According To Me bursting through the speakers with a mix of punk rock snarl and soaring anthemic highs. Also on the ‘as per usual’ checklist are The Critics’ watertight rhythm section, and Snell’s freakishly vast vocal range. We always knew he could hit those bullshit high notes, but Noise And Popularity shows he can also hit the low ones with just as much impact.

If anything, this album could have done with being a bit more ‘together’ in terms of mixing, as some songs sound out of place due to the overall intention of sounding different, but the songs that do benefit from being given a mix independent of an overall ‘album’ sound benefit greatly.

Dave Parkin’s production, thus, is one more new creative tool that The Critics have utilised, adding to the broader and more thought-provoking approach the band has taken here, and now that it’s obvious the partnership works well it would be interesting to see what The Critics and Parko come up with if they actually bite the bullet and decide to write an album, rather than just record all of the songs they have at the time.

Mind you, if they pulled their finger out, there is very little The Critics couldn’t do. They’re just fucking brilliant.

-MIKE WAFER.

CD OF THE YEAR

Usually we award a "CD of the Month" award in our monthly news... but being the end of the year, we figured why not award a "CD of the Year" award to one of the best albums we've heard in a long time? And what other album could that be but:

JONESEZ - BETTY'S SOUP
Of all the thousands of albums we've seen released this year, Betty's Soup would have to be the absolute favourite of all the staff here at Fist2Face. It always gets several spins a week here in the store (sometimes even several spins a day!), mostly due to its amazing singalongability.
If you don't know, Jonesez is the new project from Mark Stewart (ex-Horsell Common), and while it's not as heavy as his past work, it certainly delivers on melody and catchiness! If you can listen to this album without at least humming along, you're simply not human.
Mark says Jonesez isn't exactly a band - he says it's "a solo project with a little help from some friends". Coulda fooled us. This album puts every other "solo project" we've heard to shame. From the killer opener "Sheep Stations", right through rocker "Best Friends", Fang cover "The Money Will Roll Right In", and arachnid love song "Longlegs", there's not a bad track to be found.
From everyone at Fist2Face, Betty's Soup gets a big, BIG thumbs-up. We'll be remaining on the edge of our seats for the next Jonesez release!

Haven't grabbed a copy yet? Now's the time - you can grab a copy of the album (on CD or vinyl) from Fist2Face and get a free stubby holder too! Bonus!
And if you want some more insight into the album, check out Mark's track-by-track walkthrough with BombshellZine from a few months ago. It's a sweet read!

Fist2Face CD of the Month - Feb 2011Friday 4 February, 2011

CD OF THE MONTH

CHIODOS - ILLUMINAUDIO
"Illuminaudio is what I had always imagined Chiodos was capable of. It's where Bone Palace Ballet should have gone. New vocalist Brandon Bolmer helps bring the band in to the realm of the accessible, allowing just enough familiarity to seep in to the songs, but making them, and the band as a whole, entirely his own. That's not to say that Chiodos has forgotten who they are, or what can be so appealing about them. Tracks like "Love Is A Cat From Hell," "His Story Repeats Itself," and "Let Us Burn One," show their theatrics remain intact, from guitarists Pat McManaman and Jason Hale shredding their way through each track, to keyboardist Bradley Bell punching his keys in to every empty (and not so empty) space he can, this is a band that is finally in control of all of their more outlandish impulses." - Review from Lushbeat.

Chiodos are back with their third album, and it certainly doesn't disappoint! We've got plenty of stock of the new disc here, so grab a copy now!

CD OF THE MONTH

CHAOS DIVINE - THE HUMAN CONNECTION
Perth's Chaos Divine have been kicking arse and taking names for several years now. Their Ratio EP was dubbed the best Australian metal release of 2006 by Andrew Haug (host of Triple J's Full Metal Racket), they've rocked the Big Day Out, and they've supported everyone from Mastodon to Fear Factory and even Slayer.
Now they're releasing their second album, The Human Connection, and there are no doubts in anyone's minds that it's gonna be the biggest thing since automatic bread-slicing machines.
It drops on March 25, and you probably want to grab a copy or two.

GARN GET TRUCKED

Working in a record store, we see a lot of CDs. Every day. Seriously, so many of them. So many that it's impossible to listen to all of them. We'd love to, but there simply isn't time. It often takes something unusual for a band to grab your attention and force you to listen to them.
Apparently Melbourne band The Statics have found that the same is true for the wider music industry - it's quite difficult to get record labels, managers, booking agents and record labels to pay any attention to you.
So the obvious solution is to set up your gear in the back of a truck and play a set outside their offices. At least, that's what The Statics did last week.

They've been chronicling their adventures in a series of YouTube videos - check it out here, it's truckin' awesome!
And if you're slightly impressed, why not pre-order one of their upcoming EPs from Fist2Face?

BE AN AWESOME PERSON

We only send out a mailout once a month, but the Fist2Face Facebook and Twitter accounts are updated daily with details on gigs, new merch and competitions. Think of all the hot goss you could be receiving daily!

CD OF THE MONTH

JEBEDIAH - KOSCIUSZKO
Within a certain formative age bracket, Jebediah were a much-loved band. Undeniable, sugar-buzz pop songs, delivered by four high school friends from Perth. But to many, it was more than that. They were an important band. There was an emotional core to the attraction; as Kevin Mitchell recently said upon introducing the song live, "Before there was emo, there was Harpoon."

Lost My Nerve and Under Your Bed were the first two songs drip-fed to radio that announced Jebediah were back. The former is the opening track on Kosciuszko and works much better as a kick-in-the-door opener than a stand alone radio track. Under Your Bed, exactly halfway through the tracklisting works in a way it didn't on initial, isolated listening. So it makes sense that people were initially slow to get on board.
Review from The Music Network - read full review here.

It's no secret that we at Fist2Face are all HUGE Jebediah fans. So when we heard there was finally a new Jebs album coming out, we collectively pooped ourselves with excitement.
Our excitement has even flowed over onto the website itself - not in poop form, but in badge form. Buy a copy of Kosciuszko (either the Standard Edition or the very pretty Collector's Edition) before the end of May and we'll throw in a free badge! Oh boy, that's exciting.

What's that? You want an even sweeter deal? Alright, well how about you scroll down to the bottom of this news post and see if you can't win a copy of the album?

CD OF THE MONTH

ALL TIME LOW - DIRTY WORK
All Time Low - Dirty WorkTime is the essence of life, and with time comes changes and phases. With time we grow, develop and mature as beings; some things we have come to love and admire fall by the wayside and we discover new entities to fill the voids. This is what a lot of All Time Low fans have witnessed - a band that that has grown over time into the monstrous band they are today. After two albums and a classic EP, the band decided to take a different route with their last album, Nothing Personal, which was frowned upon by the overwhelming majority for its glossed over pop sound. Now, it's no secret that the guys have been aiming for a wider audience after taking the scene by storm. Nothing Personal was the first step in that direction but failed to reach the ultimate goal. Two years later and the band's back to try again with Dirty Work.

On Dirty Work, the boys lost the gloss and tongue in cheek lyrics and took their new sound to a whole new level. This isn't to say that there aren't some shortcomings, but the development on their sound is blatantly apparent. Dirty Work starts with "Do You Want Me (Dead?)," one of the stand out tracks on the album. Combining the best elements of Nothing Personal and So Wrong It's Right, it creates a fire-starter of another kind.
Review from Absolutepunk - read full review here.

Did you know that All Time Low's amazing international success can be almost entirely attributed to the fact that they played an instore at Fist2Face in February 2008?
Okay, their catchy songs and cute faces may have a little bit to do with it as well. But one thing's for sure: just like your favourite music merch store, they're only getting better with age. Dirty Work builds on their previous albums and takes All Time Low's music to a whole new level.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face!

CD OF THE MONTH

CALLING ALL CARS - DANCING WITH A DEAD MAN
After being impressed with the debut single "Reptile", I was looking forward to this album. Melbourne's Calling All Cars have gathered themselves a positive live reputation with no-nonsense, catchy rock songs. This album Dancing with a Dead Man is the band's second and is much better than their debut record a few years back Hold, Hold, Fire.

The first thing that strikes me with this record is it has more flavour and variety in sounds than their first record. There's the balls-out rock tracks destined to be crowd favourites live. There's softer moments and there's a mix in vocals, and some great guitar lines that allow this album to be a platform for bigger and better things for Calling All Cars. In fact, the band has the potential to be in the upper echelon of Aussie rock bands in the next few years sitting alongside the likes of The Living End or Birds Of Tokyo.
Review from The AU Review - read full review here.

We at Fist2Face were huge fans of Calling All Cars way back before they were cool. And now that they're all over the radio and touring with the likes of AC/DC and Queens of the Stone Age, we love them even more!
They're one of Australia's most amazing live bands, and this shows through even more on their new album than it did on their 2010 debut. Get down to a gig (like, perhaps, this Saturday August 6 at Fist2Face, Ringwood VIC?) and get your face blown off.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news post for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

DELAMARE - CIRCLES + SQUARES
Aussie rock with a fresh breeze of the 80s, that's what you get if you check out Delamare from Adelaide. Their debut album Circles + Squares sounds a bit like Pseudo Echo mixed with Fall Out Boy and The Get Up Kids. This is a very entertaining album with plenty of hooks, sunny melodies made for the summer and a radio-friendly song standard. "Forever and a Day" could've been an 80s soundtrack song and "Clothes Off in the Dark" sounds like an unreleased Fall Out Boy track. The 80s piano in "The Weather" gets me running in no time, bravo! I really like this band.
Review from Melodicnet.

Despite hailing from Adelaide, Delamare are actually a pretty sweet band! They've played numerous Fist2Face instores over the years, and there's a reason why we keep asking them back! Their new album delivers what their live show has been promising for years.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news post for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

TRIAL KENNEDY - LIVING UNDESIGNED
Trial Kennedy’s debut full length New Manic Art contained some great singles that the radio station loved for a little while, but for some unknown reason, the album never propelled the band to the next level like it should have. After this, the group split from their management and record label, plus had to replace a bass player. Add in the fact that vocalist Tim Morrison needed to have heart surgery and fell off a ladder which resulted in head staples, it’s a wonder that Living Undesigned even exists.

Opening track “Sally” features one of the most memorable chorus lines on the album. Morrison’s unique vocals are at full power - one of the band’s most defining characteristics - while Stacey Gray’s strong guitars are the driving force. The title track is one of the record’s most emotional and melodic moments, before things take a dark turn on the energetic first single “Best of Tomorrow”.
Review by LukeONfire at FasterLouder - read the full review here.

Yes, yes, we know. Living Undesigned came out in May, almost six months ago. But we didn't get a chance to feature it as our album of the month back then, and since Trial Kennedy are one of the best bands in the world, we absolutely couldn't let it just slip by without saying a few words of praise about it.
We thought it was pretty impossible to top their last album, 2008's New Manic Art, but clearly we've been proven wrong. Few albums have received as many plays in the store at Fist2Face as this one - it seems every staff member is unable to get enough of it!

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

We've got new t-shirt designs out the wazoo, as well as crazy new stuff like Living End scarves, comic books, plectrum packs and iPhone cases!

Jonesez - Gruffalo

CD OF THE MONTH

JONESEZ - GRUFFALO
“Amazing & Ridiculous” “Crazy” “Seriously Dedicated” “Impressed & Terrified” “We Are Speechless”. These are just some of the comments thrown around when Jonesez front man Mark Stewart announced he was donating his body to science to fund the 2nd Jonesez album.

After running out of money to finish the new Jonesez record, Mark spent a few weeks thinking up a variety of fast money schemes. He settled on participating in a clinical trial. Mark blogged about his experience on the Jonesez website and through social media where he spoke about his thoughts on the super powers he hoped to gain, boredom & confinement as well as interesting hospital roomies who often yelled confronting obscenities in their sleep.

The new album, titled Gruffalo, follows on from last year's debut, Betty's Soup, which featured in various best of 2010 lists including #8 in Bombshell's Top 20 of 2010 as well as taking out Album Of The Year from Fist2Face.
Above text stolen from Jonesez bio.

We try to make no secret of the fact that all of us here at Fist2Face are HUGE Jonesez fans. We weren't kidding when we made Jonesez' first album Betty's Soup our Album of the Year for 2010. We love it.
And as soon as we heard that there was a second album coming, we knew it wouldn't let us down. And whaddya know, it hasn't - another 10 tracks of fantastic, catchy melodies that will be stuck in your head for days. But in a good way, like a hot chick whose car broke down outside your house.
The best advice we can give you to make the rest of your year amazing is to pick up a copy of this album immediately.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

This is our first news post for 2012 (we didn't post one last month because... well, honestly we just figured you wouldn't notice), and we would usually take this time to reflect on how awesome 2011 was - except you already know how awesome it was, because you made it awesome! From the Music2Face samplers to the Album of the Year poll, 2011 was an amazing year for Fist2Face and we're looking forward to doing it all again this year!

CD OF THE MONTH

ENTER SHIKARI - A FLASH FLOOD OF COLOUR
Combining the seemingly disparate elements of dubstep/electronica and hardcore is on paper, a terrible idea. In practice it is usually much worse – unless you are Enter Shikari. The group's third album proves again that they are the exception to the rule.
A melting pot of thundering sub-bass, post-hardcore riffs, soaring synths and punishing drums, this album is anything but boring. Throw on top of that a mixture of catchy melodies, throat-ripping screams and politically-charged diatribes and you have A Flash Flood Of Colour.
Review by Ben Crock of Rave Magazine - click here for the whole thing.

Enter Shikari are a favourite of many of the staff here at Fist2Face, so whenever they put out a new album, we explode with glee. Plus we appreciate that since they're British, they know how to spell "colour" properly!

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

SAY ANYTHING - ANARCHY, MY DEAR
Said to be the band's first attempt at a "punk record", Anarchy, My Dear has also become an exhibit for fans to showcase their displeasure in Say Anything not returning to their roots or releasing a violently addictive tune like "Spidersong". But when it comes to songwriting, you can't always get what you want; you get what you feel. Even dating back to 2001, the California brigade have strangled written works with edgy, lively bursts of music and between the lines of firefighters falling in love and self examination and the impulsive sonnets on society, the album is modeled with bits of the band's discography. First impression, Anarchy is Say Anything's most difficult album to lay in bed with. The keys-heavy "Of Steel" is an emotional outcry that's timidly gracious with the subject of a helpless mess falling into caring arms, but like the jovial self-titled track, it echoes a feeling of being too open and delicate. And when it's not exploring fragility, it gets unusual, with monologues trying to catch up with frontman Max Bemis' lyrical tyranny ("Peace Out"). Ignore these factors that have forced fans to unjustly place Say Anything in a small boat marked with the words "death", and you'll see there's beauty in this record. In fact, there's a lot of beauty.
Review by Joshua Khan of Blare Magazine - click here for the whole thing.

Being gigantic fans of Say Anything, we made sure to not only order in plenty of stock of their new album, but also plenty of the limited edition deluxe box set, containing the album on both CD and transparent red vinyl, stainless steel dogtags, a large art print, and a huge flag. You have to see this stuff, it's awesome.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

CHILDREN COLLIDE - MONUMENT
Love them or loathe them, Melbourne indie rockers Children Collide have done pretty well for themselves. With two successful albums, a slew of popular singles, a strong fan-base and a reputation as one of the most reliably incendiary live acts in the country - they've come a long way since opening Perth's one-off Blackjack Festival back in 2007. The next notch on their Facebook timeline is new album Monument, billed as the work of a "maturing band".

The word "mature" can have a lot of negative connotations for fans of rock music, so let's get one thing straight: Children Collide haven't gone soft on you. They haven't filled this album with acoustic numbers, strings, piano ballads or anything like that. The songs still sounds fundamentally 'Children Collide'; guitarist/vocalist Johnny Mackay's trademark echoey, distorted guitar lines and distinctive vocals are still there, and it's unlikely you'd mistake these songs for anyone else on the radio. The difference, therefore, is not that the band has changed as such; they've just reformulated a little bit.
Review by Keaton McSweeney - click here for the whole thing.

We've long been supporters of Children Collide, and being their official online store, we're stoked to be able to offer sweet bonuses to their fans - like the pre-order deal we're running for Monument, which hits shelves THIS WEEKEND!
Pre-order the album from Fist2Face and receive a bonus photo pack of the band - looks great on fridges, walls, desks, or even as postcards! Plus you get the album, which is so beyond rad you won't believe your face.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

BURIED IN VERONA - NOTORIOUS
Buried In Verona are a band who have worked hard to do things the "right way." Countless tours around the country securing an underground fan base, a stint overseas to find maturity through experience and record Notorious, their third release, and the shuffling of members to find the perfect line-up. That all being said, it would seem like the new album is do or die, the make or break moment for the band in which they lay it all on the line. Releasing through UNFD after a shows with The Amity Affliction isn't a bad way to start, and if the opening two tracks of the record are anything to go by, it's game on.
Review by LukeC of KillYourStereo - click here for the whole thing.

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

CD OF THE MONTH

LOCAL RESIDENT FAILURE - A BREATH OF STALE AIR
When I first gave this album a spin I assumed I knew what I was in for. A bit of the same old. Some classic punk rock riffs, some classic punk rock lyrics all bundled up in some classic punk rock artwork. Even the album title suggests this is what's in store. Good fun but all in all pretty stock.
And to be honest I was totally okay with that. Given the current climate in punk rock I was really keen for something just like that. What I found was something much more.

A Breath Of Stale Air is the product of years worth of writing and recording and it shows. Though it would be forward to call this anything more than a punk album there is a depth to it that is often missed by bands of the same ilk. Taking leaves from the hefty books of all the so-cal and punk rock mainstays like NOFX, Lagwagon, Propaghandi, etc but with enough variation in style and structure to keep anyone interested through 15 tracks, a veritable marathon by today's standard. Along with punchy fun bull at a gate punk rock, you've got the odd ska/reggae influenced jam popping its dreadlocked head up every now and then as well as a harder edge to some of the seemingly more serious tracks.

CD OF THE MONTH

PIERCE THE VEIL - COLLIDE WITH THE SKY
Collide With The Sky is San Diego's Pierce The Veil sounding better than they ever have to date. Their past records have always had the ideas, but the translation of those into a recorded format has often sounded clouded with the various layers a little squashed together. With their third record however, the various sounds have been given plenty of space, which makes for a more defined listen and has a greater impact.

The band has always had a unique edge in their post-hardcore sound in the form of the various Latin influences and flavours that are slipped in. Whilst this is a little less prevalent on this record, it comes to the fold and makes a lasting impression when it does appear, such as one of the stand out tracks, "Bulls In The Bronx", which has a Spanish Flamenco guitar break down and atmospheric outro. Another stand out is the record's first single, "King For A Day", which features guest vocals from Sleeping With Sirens front man Kellin Quinn. This song is a good representation of the harder more energetic sound the band has applied to their new music, still plenty of sweet melody breaks but rooted in aggression.

CD OF THE MONTH

THE SMITH STREET BAND - SUNSHINE & TECHNOLOGY
The Smith Street Band's brand of indie punk leaves nowhere to hide, no veil to cower behind. Lead vocalist Wil Wagner puts everything out in the open, almost like a confessional conversation with a friend.
Their brazenly attitudinal and personal approach will either be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for. If you want experimentalism or poetic leanings this may not be your thing. Punk rock and its many forms have always been divisive, as such a personalised genre and movement. Odds are though if you're listening to Sunshine & Technology you have discovered them at a local pub, through a friend or as an ardent fan who wanted their next dose after last year's No One Gets Lost Anymore.

For those who enjoy half-sung half-spoken style vocals, catchy punk/surf riffs and sweaty hooks you will find more than enough solace in these here humble 10 tracks. Efforts like "Stay Young" and "When I Said Us I Meant Them" sum up their appeal perfectly. Wagner covers topics that anyone listening can relate to, from youthful indiscretions and young love to rebellious tendencies and discontent. The instrumental backing meanwhile is melodic and catchy, with just enough harshness around the edges, matching the force of the lyrics. As the album title suggests, you get a full picture of what the band is all about and the picture you get is of a much more fully formed band, compared to their debut.
Review by Andrew 'Hazard' Hickey of Purple Sneakers - click here for the whole thing.

There have been few album releases as highly anticipated by Fist2Face staff as Sunshine & Technology. The band's first album was the cause of many many singalongs at the store, and the new album is just as infectious. Do yourself a favour and pick up a copy as soon as you possibly can!

Grab a copy of the album from Fist2Face, or scroll down to the bottom of this news for your chance to win a copy!

Fist2Face.. the end is nearWednesday 19 February, 2014

Hey dudes,
We've been trying to do this all official with like a proper press release n shit but in the end it just did my head in!

So the big news is that after 10 years, I've decided to call it a day with Fist2Face. For the most part it's been fucking amazing to run an Independent Record Store, but the last couple of years have been pretty taxing on the business and myself personally.
Smashed windows, graffiti'd walls, multiple floods, thieving customers, thieving staff, a local council that gave us '28 days to cease trade' a couple of years back, and all of this whilst releasing 5 independent albums of my own.. it's fair to say I'm spent!
I didn't throw it in without a fight though.. I spent the last year or so without drawing a wage, working other jobs to help pay bills and living out of a backpack/crashing on friends couches all in the hope of keeping the doors open, but it was to no avail in the end :(

But as I said, for the most part, running this store has been a total blast!
THANK YOU to all the hundreds of bands who came out to play free instore gigs!
Thank you to all the labels we worked with!
Thank you to all our (mostly) amazing staff past and present!
and most of all, thank you to all our customers who believed in what we did! Keep supporting independent record stores (JB HI FI is NOT a record store!!)

We will need as much support over the next few months as possible as we attempt to close up with minimal debt. At the earliest we will close in April, the latest will be the end of June.
Please come on down to the store (or jump online) and grab a record or a shirt. With a bit of luck we might be able to put together a couple of benefit shows and we'll print up some final f2f shirts too.

Thanks again everyone, hope to see you soon!
- Gerard Pidoto

See-ya!

Fist2Face, closing datesSunday 23 March, 2014

Hey guys,

So we're going to be closing down sometime in June.
Everything on this website is still available and we are still ordering stock in from our suppliers until late May.
We will be doing a pretty big sale sometime in June.
THanks for everyone's support!
F2F shirts, beanies, jumpers and wristbands coming very soon!
